Who We Are

JAWS was founded by two women who share a vision and a name. Miriam S. and Miriam L. met via e-mail when Miriam L. sought advice from Miriam S., an MD-PhD student, about entering the medical field. You could say they were the first mentor-mentee pair formed by JAWS. It became apparent to both of them that lack of appropriate role models, mentorship and discussion amongst Jewish women was holding many college graduates back from seeking careers in the fields of math and science. Miriam L. formed a campus group to address this issue and Miriam S. was so inspired by her brave actions she asked Miriam L. to partner with her in creating a national organization. The rest, as they say, is history.
